Bob Deane - websiteI am running a local low-cost web design class for artists at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA (between Springfield and Media, 2 minutes off 476 exit 3 – this is in the Philadelphia suburbs) this winter. It was supposed to start last Wednesday, but we got snowed out. Because of that, another student decided to sign up. So I thought I’d put some info up here and see if anyone else wants to jump in.  The class is $155 ( member discounts available), 6 weeks, Wednesday nights 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The new first class date is Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Hope to see you there! I will also be re-running this class in the spring semester which starts in March. Check the same site above for details and to sign up.

I will walk students through setting up and designing their own simple artist’s website using WordPress.org software on their own domain name. I’m a potter and photographer…and a geek who translates things into plain English. I will do the hard stuff for the students, but they can have the fun of selecting an image for their header, then selecting their site colors to match. In working with artists, creating it from scratch really seems to get them charged up. There is a lot of satisfaction in creating it the way you want it to look.

I’ll help students purchase their domain name and hosting (your rent space in cyberspace for your website files…like renting gallery space to show your work…to use an analogy). We’ll decide on the look and feel of your site then create it. We’ll also brainstorm what should go on your home page, what other pages you want to have, help you create your artist’s statement or bio page and more.

If you are an artist in the Philly area and are interested – click here to see the class information. If you have trouble seeing that page the art center’s main page is www.CommunityArtsCenter.org, click on class schedules, winter semester 2014, search fro classes by Cathy Larkin. If you find this page after the class has started, drop me a note and I’ll let you know if I am running any other classes, or we can chat about having me design a website for you.
